What led us to Alaró

About Us

Founded by Jess and Jack who left their home island of Guernsey, driven to travel by a love of nature, culture, climate and adventure; along the way, they found the unique setting of Alaro in the heart of the Traumuntana. They spent many years learning about the history of agriculture and gardening as well as exploring the diverse natural beauty of the local biome and putting their new knowledge into practice on various properties accross the island. Before long their hard work paid off and they were rewarded with the ability to have a sizeable impact on the place that they now call home. From restoring anctient stonework to rejuvinating overused farmland, they are now blessed with the opportunity to do carry out work that is as varied as it is rewarding.

In their spare time they like to emerse theirselves in the local festivals, nature and history. Switching from a decade worth of experience gardening in a climate that has as many rainy days as we now have sunny days, meant they had to rethink everything they knew, but this also gave them the opportunity to see things from a different perspective.

Jessica, who first discovered a love for plants while working in special needs education, now leads the design and plant care side of the business. Having discovered a flare for design early on in her gardening career, she set about learning as much as she could, both about the native flaura and fauna aswell as the techniques of different garden designers around the world. This ultimately lead to her specialising in naturalistic dry garden design, though she always enjoys the creative opportunities that working with other styles can bring.

Jack, having spent a decade working for landscaping companies in Guernsey, now focuses on land management, soil regeneration, irrigation and hardscaping. Throughout his childhood and time in the industry, trees; whether they are in a natural, agrarian or urban setting, have been a source of wonder and inspiration. He is now blessed to be working in one of the most historically rich and diverse landscapes in the world. His work now sees him carry out and provide consultation for many hectares of land throughout Alaró, from controlling and capturing storm water to restoring ancient olive groves to their former glory and improving the sustainability and resilience of local woodland practices.
